Tips for planning a Commercial Climbing Wall
Whether you're contemplating a 12,000+ square foot Climbing Gym or a Home Bouldering Wall , we've been there and we can help you, if with nothing else a little free advice.
1. Location, location: This is usually the most important aspect of planning any over the counter business. Get real and be honest; don't chose a location just because you want to live there. If you are planning a climbing gym, be sure you are near the hub of a large population center and that your location is easy to get to, public transit is also a must as many of your clients will be students. If you are planing a Theme or Amusement Park location, make sure you have sufficient visibility and available walk by traffic.
2. Portability: This may be the most important decision of your planning phase. If you make a big mistake with # 1 or with any other aspect of your planning you can always salvage the bulk of your capital if you can easily change or move your wall. Even if you have the perfect location, a change in traffic patterns, landlords or the local economy can drastically affect your business. So, our advice is: unless you own the building and are positive you can stay with your location, choose a Modular Climbing Wall System which can be easily dismantled and moved, for the majority of your gym.
3. Height is impressive, thrilling and attracts customers, so generally higher is better as long as it is reasonably cost effective to achieve it. We recommend 24 feet high as the minimum for a commercial operation. A novelty wall or area is also a great draw, possibly a Natural Form Sculpted wall to wow the public, make it look as natural as possible ( use a replica of the local rock formations, or add a theme to your gym )
4. Pack them in: If you got # 1 right then you will need lots of routes that can be climbed simultaneously. You can't afford to waste space. Remember creative people can become entirely absorbed with expressing their creativity. Be sure that you find a designer who understands and cares about your business.
5. Make it steep and interesting: Climbing steep walls is more fun, better training and safer than climbing vertical walls or slabs. Changing the angle every few feet is even better.
From the conception of your facility with a scale model to the engineering and construction, ending with staff training we will help you every step of the way, to make your project a success.
